Frequently Asked Questions

What areas do you service?

Primarily Lane County. However, we are happy to travel as needed depending on Dr.Polk’s schedule. If you would like to know if an in-home appointment is possible, please contact us.

Why choose Pets First Veterinary Care?

Our goal is to prioritize the care of our non-human family members. Veterinary care has sped up to meet the demand of our communities. Full-service clinics and emergency clinics can be overbooked, understaffed, or have intense wait times. PFVC exists to slow down. By providing in-home care, our focus is on one patient. During your appointment, there are no other priorities or concerns besides the care of your family member.

What is mobile vet care for?

Mobile vet care, through PFVC, is for a more personalized and focused approach to health. Please see a list of our services for more information. By having appointments in home, families and patients are more relaxed and conversations about medical care tend to be more fruitful.

What services do you provide?

Primarily, PFVC provides communication and clarity. Our mission is to offer select and individualized care for each patient. Appointment types are specifically set aside to explore options with families as we determine what care needs to be provided. Once a plan has been determined, it is discussed, in detail, each time. What are the different appointment types?

- Well patient appointments: This appointment is for patients without any concerns. This is geared towards animals who simply need medication refills, vaccines, and discussion of preventative care, general care, or yearly check-ups.

- Sick patient appointments: This appointment is to explore symptoms, lifestyle, diagnostics, and treatment of symptoms/diseases. If your pet has a current diagnosis or symptoms, this is the appointment type best suited for that. No vaccines are given during these appointments.

- Urgent patient: Same day appointment. The main goal of this appointment is “Do I need to go the emergency clinic?” PFVC is not a full-service veterinary clinic at this time.

- Hospice appointment: This appointment is to discuss improving quality of life near the end of life. These appointments can transition to, or from, euthanasia appointments.

- Euthanasia appointment: This appointment is to discuss the procedure for end of life. These appointments can transition to, or from, hospice appointments.

- Telemedicine appointment: This is a 15-minute phone call or Zoom call to discuss prescription refills or plan an appointment.

Why are there rules about appointment types?

This allows us to structure our time efficiently so that each patient is given the time, care, and attention they deserve.

If my pet already has a veterinarian, can I use PFVC?

Absolutely! A full-service veterinarian cannot be substituted. However, getting a diagnosis can be overwhelming. PFVC offers clarity regarding diagnoses, planning next steps, advising life-style changes, creating a question list for your veterinarian, or simply finding a way to manage an illness. In essence, you are bringing PFVC to your pet medical team as an additional patient advocate.

What is the cost of services?

  • Costs are determined by the specific services and duration/miles traveled from Cottage Grove to your home. For more details on cost, please click here.

Why are you more expensive than brick-and-mortar veterinarians?

Traditional veterinarians have the infrastructure to see 15-30 patients per doctor per day. Dr. Polk limits the number of patients per day to be as thorough and diligent as possible. To compensate for that, prices need to be slightly higher to cover expenses and cost of living.
